Insurance

All students are required to have health insurance coverage. Under the federal government’s health care law (the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act), you must have a plan that qualifies as minimum essential coverage or pay a fee on your next federal tax return. There is no special student exception to the federal requirement to have health insurance. CIU does not provide a student health insurance; the student is responsible to secure his or her own coverage.

Addendum for Georgia Students Only

In keeping with the Georgia Nonpublic Postsecondary Education Commission’s standards on refunds, the following applies to students who are residents of the state of Georgia and taking classes online or at a Columbia International University site in Georgia:

  • Refunds are made in full to the student within 45 days of the date of withdrawal.
  • Refunds are determined based on the proration of tuition and percentage of program completed at withdrawal, up until 50% of the program.
  • Students completing 50% or more of the instructional time will not receive any refund.
  • Refunds are based on tuition paid for semesters of the instructional program as described in the enrollment agreement. This policy only applies to full withdrawals and it is up to the institution to determine policies for refunds for partial (course) withdrawals.
