Healthcare Administration, MS

Purpose

The Master of Science in Healthcare Administration (MHA) program expands the reach of the university to include leaders of healthcare organizations. The mission of the MHA is to train and equip “Ministering Healthcare Administrators” for a lifetime of significance impacting the marketplace with the message of Christ.Graduates of the MHA program will have the ability to directly impact organizations and employees within those organizations as effective steward leaders who view their leadership role as a primary means to live out their faith via the thoughtful integration of faith and work on a daily basis. Courses are taken one at a time in a 6 week online format. 

Overview

Upon completion of this program, graduates should be able to:

  • Lead and manage healthcare organizations using recognized principles, dynamics, and best practices of effective healthcare administration.
  • Formulate an ethical personal leadership philosophy for a diverse and multi-cultural 21st century workforce based on foundational theories of leadership and a Christian worldview.
  • Develop a strategic plan for a healthcare organization that demonstrates the theories and best practices of strategic planning and change management.
  • Evaluate current legal and regulatory challenges facing healthcare administrators and healthcare organizations according to the legal basis and limitations of governmental authority, as well as current administrative law and procedures.
  • Analyze the implications of public policy on hospitals, medical practices, healthcare businesses, and a diverse and changing citizenry.
  • Prepare a budget for a healthcare organization using the principles of effective and ethical management of financial resources and analyze the effectiveness of the budgeting cycle as related to spending and accountability.
  • Manage complex data systems, using data to inform decision making and strategy development within the healthcare sector.
  • Evaluate the foundational elements of human resource management within the context of healthcare organizations and a diverse and multi-cultural 21st Century workforce, analyzing contemporary issues, challenges, and methods for leading in a servant-oriented manner.

Transfer Policy

Students may transfer in up to six hours from prior related graduate level work, subject to the approval of the Program Director.  See the complete transfer policy here

Graduation Requirements

  • Successful completion of the MHA curriculum with a minimum of 30 graduate semester hours of coursework.
  • A minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.7.
  • Any course in which a grade of a C- or below is earned must be repeated.
  • Successful completion of the capstone course with a minimum grade of B-.*
