Purpose and Objectives
The Youth Ministry, Family, and Culture major provides students with the knowledge and skills to reach the next generation by preparing them to minister and equip youth and their families. This degree prepares students to serve as youth pastors or youth workers in a wide range of settings. You will be prepared to:
- Develop a biblically-grounded philosophy of ministry with core principles that will create a ministry framework in your chosen profession.
- Articulate and put into practice biblical principles and core strategies of connecting with and counseling hurting people.
- Learn how to evaluate current trends in youth culture to discern how to engage youth and support families.
Other Strenghts of Youth Ministry, Family, and Culture (YMFC):
- Students in this program graduate with two degrees, one in YMFC and one in Bible. Because YMFC graduates must be prepared to teach, preach, and lead devotionals and other activities based on the Word of God, YMFC majors take 12 credits in Bible and Theology beyond the standard core requirements for all CIU undergraduate students. In your ministry courses you will learn and experience how ministry principles come from Scripture and how to apply them in today’s world.
- Toward the end of your program, you will complete a one semester internship where you will put into practice what you’ve learned and gain new on-the-ground skills. The internship can be with a church or parachurch organization anywhere in the world. You will be mentored and trained by your site supervisor and will process your experience with your CIU faculty mentor during and after your internship.
See Undergraduate Core for graduation requirements.
