HUM 3510 - Western Literature: Ancient, Medieval, Renaissance

In this survey you will read and discuss some of the influential authors of Western literary canon from Homer and Virgil to Dante and Cervantes.  The course highlights the close link in the ancient and medieval world between literature, philosophy, and religion, and between the study of literature and growth in character.  It is divided into four major units:  Greek literature, Roman literature, Medieval literature, and Renaissance literature.  Along the way you will read some of the foundational texts of Western literary criticism.
