HIS 3300 - Ancient Greece: Foundation of Western Democracy Credits: 3
This course will explore the founding principles of liberty in contrast with empire and tyranny, the conflict between East and West, military tactics, Greek philosophy, religion, art, literature, and culture. This survey will provide analysis of the civilizational impact of Greek culture, from the rule of Law prescribed by Solon through to the Peloponnesian War. Macedon will be discussed from the rise of Philip II to the death of Alexander and the splintering of his empire.
