CNS 9700 - Teaching in Counselor Education

Credits: 3

In this course, students will prepare to become competent teachers of counselor education through the examination of methods to work effectively with different learning styles, worldviews, cultural dynamics, and diversity. They will learn how to develop curriculum, deliver feedback, and examine methods to evaluate syllabi and learning outcomes. Students will also have the opportunity to develop a personal philosophy of teaching, considering skills and methods for applying this philosophy to the practice of teaching. The roles of mentoring, modeling, gatekeeping, and the implication of settings on the learning process will all be examined. By incorporating concepts and skills learned throughout the course, students will develop a teaching presentation complete with learning objectives and record themselves delivering instruction throughout the course, culminating in a teaching presentation to demonstrate their progress in becoming an effective teacher of counselor education.
