CNS 9960 - Proposal Development

Credits: 3

The focus of this course is on the preparation for the dissertation phase of training. In this course, students identify a dissertation topic and collaborate with faculty advisors to select two committee members (subject matter expert and methodologist with one serving as chair, third committee member is selected by the institution); begin to conduct a literature review; develop a problem statement and research questions; and evaluate research designs, methods, and types of analyses to use for their dissertation. Students will synthesize their knowledge of research and research methodology and develop a rationally defensible approach to a research topic in counseling that incorporates fidelity to both the Christian faith and the scientific process by developing a research proposal that identifies a gap in the literature. Students also complete their initial premise in this course and an annotated outline of their proposal. It is strongly recommended that students take this course after they have successfully completed all research courses in their program of study.
