Purpose
The Communication Department exists to educate students in the development of skills that will enable them to appropriately and creatively utilize the latest technology to communicate Christ creatively. To be a competent communicator one must know the Word that God gave us and the world God created. The common core of the Digital Media & Cinema program provides a foundation in essential disciplines that will contribute to the student’s ability to communicate effectively in today’s world.
The Digital Media & Cinema major is designed prepare you to inspire, teach and entertain through storytelling from a redemptive perspective? It trains the student as a producer of digital media productions in the understanding of cinematography, video editing, motion graphics, audio recording, and script writing. Students gain valuable experience in both production and postproduction settings. They will work behind the scenes to shoot, light, edit short films, music videos, short documentaries, and cinematic features. Experience in musical scores, sound tracks, dialogue, and foley effects are also are part of the academic experience.
Objectives
- Develop essential disciplines in the field of media and communication
- Integrate biblical knowledge into the display of media for marketplace and ministry organizations
- Provide students with a foundation in audio, video and film production
- Enable students to create stories for the screen through scriptwriting
- Teach students the art of storytelling through non-linear digital editing
Graduation Requirements
- Minimum 120 semester hours of credit
- Complete 18 hours in Bible and Theology courses.
- 6 semester hours of Leadership Development courses.
- Minimum of 30 semester hours of General Education
- Minimum 24 semester hours in Communication Core courses.
- Minimum for 24 semester hours in Digital Media & Cinema courses
- Minimum 24 semester hours of upper division courses
- Satisfactory evidence of Christian character and doctrinal views
- Meets all ethical requirements and Student Life standards
- Minimum cumulative 2.0 GPA
