Writing Minor

The Writing Minor at CIU provides students from disciplines outside of the English major with skills in both creative and professional writing. Courses can complement a major or simply allow students the freedom to study a totally unrelated field. Students selecting this minor can expect to:

Strengthen and broaden their current skills in essay and expository writing.
Communicate effectively in professional and workplace settings.
Experiment with creative forms in multiple genres.

Students minoring in writing must pass ENG 1110 and ENG 1111 successfully.

ENG 2131 - Fiction Writing Credits: 3
ENG 2138 - Copy Editing Credits: 3
ENG 3135 - Creative Nonfiction Credits: 3
ENG 3810 - Professional Writing Credits: 3
ENG 4800 - Writer’s Portfolio Credits: 3

Note:

Students with transfer credit must complete a minimum of six credit hours of writing courses at CIU to earn a Writing Minor.

Students completing the Writing Minor along with a major in English will have the requirement for designated electives waived in the major.
