Humanities is the study of human culture as displayed in literature, art, philosophy, and history. The Humanities program offers a rich and flexible preparation for life and graduate study by equipping students to read, write, and think critically in the context of a Christian worldview. Humanities provides a solid preparation for graduate and seminary studies, as well as careers in teaching, law, church ministries, and cross-cultural engagement.

Objectives

The objectives of the Humanities program are to:

  • Develop practice and skill in the art of reading, writing, critical thinking, and library research.
  • Develop a foundational understanding of influential cultural currents of human thought and creative expression represented in literature, art, philosophy, history, and language.
  • Encourage students to use the Christian Scriptures and theology as sources of integration for various fields of knowledge.
  • Assist students in their ability to understand and articulate a Christian worldview.
