Care & Counseling, MA

Purpose and Objectives:

The MA in Care and Counseling prepares graduates to integrate biblical-theological, psychological, and counseling insights and apply them to a variety of non-licensure work activities and settings. It provides graduate-level knowledge and skills in human behavior that promote the spiritual and emotional well-being of those whom they serve. This degree does not prepare graduates to work as licensed professional counselors.

The objectives of the MA in Care and Counseling degree will enable students to:

  • Integrate biblical-theological concepts and principles with psychological theories and counseling methods.
  • Identify and address common life-adjustment issues in an ethical and culturally-sensitive manner.
  • Apply counseling skills in specialized non-clinical settings.

  • Affirm to be a Christian and agree with CIU’s Doctrinal Standard
  • Official transcript for highest earned degree and any master’s level credits earned
    • A minimum 2.5 GPA for the most recent degree obtained.
  • Essay (800 words total)

Residency and Transfer Policies:

The program is non-residential, and students are not required to study in residence. All courses are delivered online. A student may transfer in up to 24 hours, if he/she can demonstrate completion of equivalent courses from an accredited program.

Time Limitation:

The time limit for completing the program is ten years, dating from the student’s first course. The program is designed so that students should be able to complete their degree in two years of full-time study.

Completion Requirements:

  • Successful completion of all courses with a cumulative GPA of 2.5.
  • Affirmation of the CIU doctrinal statement.
