Philosophy, BA

Purpose and Objectives

Wisdom and critical thinking skills are always necessary for succeeding in life. A major in philosophy assists students in the development of a solid biblical worldview and cultivates a lifelong ability to compare ideas and beliefs. The philosophy major program provides students with a substantial education in the history of philosophy and introduces them to several subject areas of contemporary philosophy. The program is organized to allow students to prepare for seminary, law school, or graduate school in general. In addition, the philosophy major also provides an excellent foundation for many vocations and careers ranging from higher education to ministry to business. Core courses lay a foundation for critical thinking and writing. Elective courses are flexible, allowing students to choose areas of interest.

  • Students will attain broad exposure to the history of philosophy and an understanding of philosophical issues related to the Christian faith.
  • Students will be prepared for both academic and professional graduate study.
  • Students will develop writing and thinking skills for future study, professional careers, and lifelong ministry in the church.
