Purpose
The Human Services major prepares students to effectively engage in Human services professional and paraprofessional jobs in such diverse settings as clinics, hospitals, group homes, correctional centers, government agencies, day treatment centers, sheltered workshops, extended care facilities, community-based living homes and social service agencies throughout the community. Depending on the employment setting and the kinds of clients served there, job titles and duties vary a great deal. A human services career is extremely rewarding because of helping others overcome obstacles and providing guidance for members of society that are in distress.
Objectives
In addition to the mission statement, general objectives, and requirements of the University, the objectives of the Human Services program are:
- Develop a personal biblical philosophy of human helping, emphasizing student strengths and potential growth areas. Apply the principles and skills of ethical decision-making and respect for diversity within a biblical worldview.
- Demonstrate interpersonal skills in helping relationships and group dynamics.
- Recognize the social and psychological dimensions of human interactions in a variety of settings.
Graduation Requirements
- Minimum 120 semester hours of credit
- Complete 18 hours in Bible and Theology courses.
- 6 semester hours of Leadership Development courses.
- Minimum of 30 semester hours of General Education
- Minimum 24 semester hours in Human Services courses.
- Minimum 30 semester hours of upper division courses
- Satisfactory evidence of Christian character and doctrinal views
- Meets all ethical requirements and Student Life standards
- Minimum cumulative 2.0 GPA

- Choose 10 courses from any department.
Notes:
- Students working toward a BS in Human Services are encouraged to choose a minor to complement their major program of study or consider a Bible major. Most minors are comprised of 18 credit hours.
- Students are also encouraged to focus 12 hours (4 courses) in the following areas: American Sign Language, Art, Bible, Communications, Economics, English, Greek, Hebrew, History, Humanities, Music, Philosophy, Psychology, Science, Social Science, Spanish and Theology.
