ICS 3120 - Communication and Culture

Credits: 3

All communication is cultural: It draws on ways we have learned to speak and give nonverbal messages. Miscommunication is likely to happen, especially when there are significant cultural differences between communicators. The course will explore general principles of cross-cultural communication derived from theories of communication, cultural anthropology, and models of communication found in the Bible. The role of worldview and culture of both the communicator and the receptor will be discussed. Interactive activities, case studies, and discussion will be used to train participants to communicate more effectively in a cross-cultural context.
