History Minor

Overview

If you want to make your resume stand out and impress your future employers, the History Minor at CIU is the perfect way to supplement your Major with vital, transferable, skills from a contrasting field. By taking the History Minor you will deepen your knowledge of critical events, movements, and people groups from throughout history, and learn from their decisions, mistakes, and successes. You will be trained to research topics carefully, think critically through a Biblical framework, and communicate effectively in ways that will prepare you for graduate school, propel your career, and enrich your worldview for the rest of your life.

Graduates of the History Minor will:

  • Articulate the significance of various historical periods, persons, events, ideas, and themes in history
  • Analyze historical events and texts using critical concepts such as context, causation, communication, and conflict
  • Evaluate the importance of ideas and philosophies in the development of our modern world
  • Flourish as authors and communicators
  • Gain a broad perspective of various movements and locate their importance in history and current social debates
  • Understand the flow of history through a Biblical worldview

CIU History will empower you to faithfully analyze the world you inhabit, display and defend your perspectives in a logical, coherent, and objective manner, and be a force for the Gospel through intellectual activism. You will be able to make the stories of your heroes come alive as you help shape their legacy for the next generation by giving voice to their experiences.
