Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL), BA


Overview

The Teaching English to Speakers of other languages (TESOL) major develops the knowledge and skills necessary to teach English as a second foreign language in a wide variety of educational settings, both in the United States and abroad.

Educational Outcomes of the program:

  • Demonstrate a basic understanding of linguistics and Second Language Aquisition (SLA).
  • Make informed decisions concerning the use of materials, methods, and procedures appropriate for effective second-language teaching.
  • Draw upon practical experience in planning and developing lessons for teaching English to speakers of other languages.
  • Apply principles and rationale for using English language teaching as a means of ministering cross-culturally.

Students who complete the TESOL Major receive a Teaching English as a Second Language certificate upon graduation.
